The 19th century was the century when dog shows were born and when dog breeding started mainly producing dogs for hunting.

After some years the exterior became more and more important.

For many of the early Sealyham breeders the hunting skills still was the most important quality.

The first kennel was of course owned by Captain Edwardes himself. I am pretty sure that it was only the hunting skills that was important in his breeding program.

In 1912 a specialist club was founded, The Sealyham Terrier and Badger Digging Association. From that time onward the breed´s success with the public was assured.

Kennels started up all over the country and  the breed got very popular.
